Euro RSCG Life acquires Medicom Group
July 2, 2009 – 10:29 am by Gina MonariEuro RSCG Life’s acquisition of the London-based medical communication agency Medicom Group strengthens the network’s global and European medical education offering. As a result of the acquisition, the agency is aligned with Euro RSCG Life’s medical education brand and will be called Euro RSCG Life Medicom.
According to Donna Murphy, managing partner, Euro RSCG Life, one of the forces behind the acquisition was their unique expertise in driving digital for medical communications.
“At Euro RSCG Life, everything we do has digital at the core,” Ms. Murphy told Med Ad News. “Particularly with med ed, we are very focused on putting digital at the core in everything we do as well as social marketing. These guys in Europe have a unique expertise in driving digital for medical communications, so they really enhance our focus and the direction we’re going in, and it’s worked out beautifully.”
Medicom Group, headquartered in West London, UK, was named Medical Education Consultancy of the Year by Communiqué in 2008 and 2007, as well as 2008 Marketing Consultancy of the Year by PharmaTimes.
Euro RSCG Life now has centers of excellence in New York, Latin America, Tokyo, Toronto and the United Kingdom. Ms. Murphy believes Medicom enhances all of London into a major center of excellence for Euro RSCG Life in Europe. The network has regional offices in Russia, China, and India.
“We are beefing up right now through acquisitions and enhancement of talent to make them centers of excellence also,” Ms. Murphy told Med Ad News. “That’s where we’re headed.”
According to Martin Ellis, chairman and main shareholder of Medicom Group, the acquisition provides Medicom with exciting opportunities to continue growing and makes Medicom Group a truly global brand. Mr. Ellis says Medicom will bring its knowledge, know-how and professional style in medical communications and market access to and better service Euro RSCG Life clients.
In parallel, the new enterprise will provide existing Medicom clients with a European and worldwide perspective. Medicom’s pharmaceutical clients include Eli Lilly and Co., Pfizer Inc., Merck Serono, and Sanofi-Aventis. Medicom Group’s experience spans numerous disease areas and ranges from pre-launch creative concepts and marketing plan development to post-launch communications. The agency is renowned for its expertise in U.K. and international healthcare communications, from peer-review publication planning and consumer education to strategic consultancy and effective tactical implementation.
“I am delighted to welcome Medicom Group into the Euro RSCG Worldwide network,” says Michel Nakache, worldwide managing partner, Euro RSCG Life. “This will enhance our offering for our clients and prospects in medical communications and market access at both the global and European levels. Because our strategy has been based on the creation of one single brand, Medicom Group becomes Euro RSCG Life Medicom.”
